Trail Stewards

Do you regularly walk the trails at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center? And are you interested in helping to maintain public trails in coastal areas?

Trail Steward volunteers walk trails, pick up trash, report on wildlife sightings, trail misuse and needed repairs. Trail Stewards may also participate in periodic trail workdays. This program currently exists at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center with plans to expand to other areas.

Monthly Trail Steward trainings and volunteer trail workdays happen on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. beginning in February of 2011 (see calander).  The first hour is a training for new Stewards during which we'll orient you to the trails and explain your responsibilities. From 10-12, we'll take care of some bigger jobs that individual Trail Stewards don't do, such as putting in or repairing signage or clearing brush. Come for the whole thing, or just show up at 10 for the work party.  For more information, contact carol@friendsofthedunes.org or call 444-1397.
