Share the Beach Internship

Pay Rate: 8-10 hours per week, $17/hour

Summary
Interns will spend 4-5 hour shifts twice a week, on weekends and holidays throughout the summer, conducting outreach activities and gathering data on local beaches. Working in teams of two, interns will provide a presence on local beaches while sharing information about local coastal ecology and gathering data on beach use. Interns will be responsible for educating the public on topics that include beach regulations, beach ecology, and natural history of the threatened western snowy plover. Interns will also share outreach materials such as maps and brochures. Additionally, interns may be asked to participate in community events such as Arts Alive, Eureka Friday Night Market, and the Arcata Farmers Market.

Minimum Qualifications
Available to work on weekends, excellent communication skills, and willingness to learn.

Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of beach ecology and shorebirds, coursework or experience in natural resource interpretation, and a passion for coastal ecology.

Work Conditions
Interns will be outside on local beaches interacting with the public. Interns must be able to walk in soft sand while carrying supplies. We can make reasonable accommodations for qualified applicants with limited mobility.

Mandatory training will be held via Zoom on the evening of Friday, May 3rd and an in-person field trip on Saturday, May 4th. The field trip will be held in Little River State Beach, McKinleyville CA.
