Education / Ocean Day

At Ocean Day 2009 on Thursday, June 4th, 800 students and their teachers and chaperones celebrated World Ocean Week by removing invasive plants and cleaning up trash at the South Spit of Humboldt Bay. Afterward, the students formed the shape of a sea turtle that could be seen from the air with the words "Save Our Oceans." Friends of the Dunes collaborated with BLM to coordinate this event locally. The California Coastal Commission sponsors this statewide event.
