The Coastal Naturalist Manual is a 60-page, full color, illustrated overview of Humboldt Bay area's coastal environments. Originally created as a supplement to the annual Coastal Naturalist Training, it includes sections on geology, flora, fauna, cultural history and interpretive techniques. The Coastal Naturalist Manual underwent a major revision and re-design in 2010 and includes up-to-date information presented in aesthetically pleasing and accessible terms. Proceeds from the sale of the Coastal Naturalist Manual support Friends of the Dunes' public education programs.

Thanks to a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the pocket guide was revised in 2006. Geared for the novice, this 5-fold laminated guide is designed as an introduction to the plants and animals of the dunes and includes a selection of common reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds and plants and beach wash-ups. Perfect for those who are new to the dunes, teachers, students and amateur naturalists.
