Environmental Education Interns

$25 Per Diem, 5-10 hours per week, September-November

Description: Lead field trips to the Humboldt Bay and coastal dunes for 3rd-6th graders on Wednesdays and/or Fridays from 9am-1:30pm. Through hands-on games and activities, teach students about native dune plants, habitat restoration, salt marsh ecology, animal tracking, bird watching, freshwater invertebrates, dune geology, and human history.

Requirements: No experience is necessary, a full training is provided. Applicants should have an appreciation of nature and a desire to work with children. Must be able to walk moderate distances in sand, and be able to lift 20 pounds. Reliable transportation is a plus. Must be available on Wenesday or Friday from 8:30am until 2pm.

Visitor Services Volunteer Position

Visitor Services volunteers are outgoing and enjoy talking to people. They provide support in the Nature Center by greeting visitors, orienting guests to the trails, soliciting new members and volunteers, selling merchandise, and answering phone inquiries. Volunteers at the Nature Center are the face of Friends of the Dunes and they supply essential help for staff. They provide visitors with background information about the Nature Center itself, as well as Friends of the Dunes, its upcoming programs and organizational needs.
