ABOUT US

Friends of the Dunes is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has been involving the community in the conservation of coastal environments since 1982. Based in Humboldt County California, FOD is best known for coastal ecosystem restoration, education programs and guided walks. In its role as a land trust, FOD has acquired 118 acres of coastal dune property now known as the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center.

Friends of the Dunes is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization​ dedicated to conserving the natural diversity of coastal environments in northern California through community supported education and stewardship programs.​

  • Provide equitable and inclusive community education that helps people build a relationship to the natural world, fosters understanding, and inspires caring for the environment.

  • Build community-based restoration programs that serve to maintain and enhance the natural diversity and resilience of coastal environments. 

  • Work in partnership with Tribes, organizations, and agencies to ensure coastal ecosystems are conserved and stewarded for generations to come.

  • Develop a sustainable, resilient, and equitable organization dedicated to inspiring stewardship of coastal environments in perpetuity.
